Best Cw Decoder Software

broken image

This program allows CW operators to copy CW code with a computer. The decoded CW is displayed as text or can generate a side tone. There is a spectrum display of the audio with a sliding cursor to select a particular audio for decoding. The program also allows for keying a transmitter from the keyboard with full CW break-in operation. Welcome to my personal page, website about radio amateur digital modes since 1999. Best Morse Decoder Software

Introduction

This page contains links to many different programs that can be used with the SignaLink interface. Tigertronics in no way endorses or supports any of the programs listed here. We have compiled this list only to help you in locating programs that are known to work with sound card interfaces. Most programs work very well and provide excellent performance, but as you should expect, some programs will work better than others and some will not work at all with certain computer / sound card configurations. We recommend that you download and evaluate several programs to determine which ones work best for you. If you have questions about a specific program, or if you have trouble getting it to work with your system, then you will need to contact the author of the program directly for help. Questions or problems with the operation of the SignaLink should of course be directed to our Technical Support Department.

How To Find What You Are Looking For

The programs on this page are listed in alphabetical order by program name. To the right of each program name you will find information about the program, such as the modes and Operating Systems supported. To help you find what you are looking for, we recommend that you use your web browsers 'Find' feature (Netscape/Mozilla users press 'CRTL-F') to search this page for specific 'key words'. These keywords can be the mode that you are interested in (PSK, MT63, etc.), the program name (or any part of it), the operating system you want to use, etc. When you find a program that you would like to download, simply click on the program name. You will then be transferred automatically to the authors web site or another page where the program can be downloaded.

Windows Vista, 7, 8.x and Windows 10 Compatibility

We have found that most communication programs that work in Windows XP also work just fine in Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10. However, some programs cannot access the Windows software volume controls properly in these later versions of Windows. Because of this, we suggest that you adjust the software volume controls only through Windows instead of your program's 'Adjust Waterfall Drive' or 'Adjust Transmitter Drive' (or similarly worded) menus. Instructions for doing this in these newer versions of Windows can be found on our SignaLink Support page.

Best Cw Decoder Software

Please note that we have marked programs as being compatible with newer version of Windows (7/8.x and 10) when the program's specifications say that it's compatible, or when testing and/or customer feedback indicates that it is. Again, most communication programs that work in Windows XP also function just fine in Windows 7, 8.x and Windows 10, so please don't think that a program won't work simply because we haven't yet marked it as being compatible.

Sound card program setup for the SignaLink USB

Be sure to see our instructions for configuring your communication program. If we don't have the program that you are using listed, then be sure to see the 'General Setup' section as it applies to ALL sound card programs.

OK, Computeers! What's the oldest form of electronic communication? If you said the telegraph, you're right. Most people know what Morse code is, too: Named for its inventor, it's the dots and dashes that the telegraph man so dramatically taps out on a metal key in old Western movies. Known by the shorthand CW, Morse code is a direct ancestor of computer code. The Internet uses the same basic technology, and probably the same wires, too, in some places, so it's appropriate that we should take a look at software for sending and receiving Morse code via a PC. Which brings us to CW Decoder, a free application from WD6CNF. It can decode Morse code signals received on a radio at up to 50 words per minute, and it can transmit Morse code tapped out on your keyboard, keying a radio transmitter button via the PC's serial port. Its hands-free operation means you don't have to stop keying to click the mouse.

CW Decoder's colorful, feature-packed interface is a bit busy for our tastes, but its close resemblance to an amateur radio's faceplate will be familiar to many of the program's users, and many of the controls will be, too. On the taskbar, there are menu items like AFC (Automatic Frequency Control) and Transmit, interface sliders for Rx Gain, Rx Coarse, Nx Blank, Tx Sync, and Squelch, and looping controls that are common in amateur radio components and software. Variable displays for signal-to-noise ratio, peak frequency, and other readouts run along the bottom of the interface. New users will probably need some time to sort it all out; it's actually quite a basic setup but with lots of options. If, like us, you don't happen to have a ham radio at hand, we recommend trying one of the many sites online for learning or using CW. After much fiddling, we managed to get a scrolling text display, though unfortunately not in readable English. However, the program did decode radio signals to text, and that's what we wanted it to do--it's up to you to configure it to your own system.

Cw Decoder Program

Our only real gripe is the Help file, which won't open in some recent versions of Windows, such as 64-bit Windows 7, due to a known issue involving .chm files; we feel this should be a problem for the developer, not the user. Nevertheless, CW Decoder is unique, useful, and free, and we recommend it to anyone with an interest in Morse code or amateur radio.
